Flowers, Chicks, and Easter

Spring has sprung, for the most part, in the Fingerlakes region of New York State (except for the snow we had yesterday).  My daffodils look beautiful!  My crocus' were beautiful too, before the chickens made them their lunch one day last week.  My son and I started our tomatoes indoors a few days ago.  I'm not sure that this tomato growing will work, because I always manage to kill them and I always go and buy plants from the Amish down the road anyways.

We hatched out chicks last week.  We started with 27 eggs in our incubator and by the time the hatching started we were down to 22 that I knew there was something in!  We had 16 hatch in all, so not bad for my second time hatching!  The chickies are adorable little monsters.  They eat like wild beasts, attacking their food as soon as I place it in their humble little diapers.com box in my basement.  Soon they will be ready to move out into the wilderness, AKA the henhouse in the backyard.  Hope it warms up soon!

This will be my son's third Easter.  I think he has somewhat of an understanding of what will be happening this year.  He doesn't get overly excited about anything, but he does get excited about going to see "Gamma" and "Gampa" and his cousins, "Hannah," "Zazzie" (Lucie), and "Will."  We embark on our great adventure this afternoon when my sister, her husband, and their wild haired dog Biff, stop on the Thruway to pick us up (because I hear that gas is over $4 a gallon pretty close to here).  Hopefully when I get home on Sunday afternoon my bathroom floor will be installed....but that is another story.

Happy Easter Everyone!

Well, My Grandfather Was Right....

As a kid I thought that time moved so incredibly slow...summers dragged on for what seemed like months and months...Christmas took years to come....a year in school lasted a lifetime.   Grandpa always said, "When you get older, you won't know where the time has gone..."  I never believed him.  Then I graduated from high school, went to college, got married, got a job, had a son....and where has the time gone?  Grandpa was right.  He is not physically here anymore to reflect upon this with, but I know that he is looking down laughing and saying, "I told you so...you kids never listen."

I find myself now, as a teacher, telling my students the same thing.  They just cannot wait for lunch, or Thanksgiving break, or summer vacation...I tell them it will be here sooner than they know.  They laugh and give me a funny look...a look that I know because I gave that look once too...and someday I know they will look back and say, "Where has the time gone?" and wonder why those kids are always in such a rush...

I think that Earl had brought craziness to my house...

I am assuming that the rain that is coming down outside is from Earl.  It's windy...it's rainy...it's sunny...it's rainy...etc.  My rottie pup is bouncing off the walls.  He wants to be outside, but he was neutered two days ago and is supposed to be leash walked and quiet....yeah...that is working out.  He is now "resting" in the laundry room.  That usually consists of shredding something which makes it a lot easier to decide what I should throw out next.  My two year old is acting a lot like the puppy...except he has not asked to go outside yet.  Currently he is scooping up Cheerios off the ground with his little John Deere backhoe toy.  He was just in the window.  And before that was trying to scoop water out of the pan that is soaking in the sink.  My lab is sleeping.  I gave him his allergy medicine and he has zonked.  The dog has terrible allergies.  He loves to run through the weeds out back...then he comes in the house and attempts to chew his skin off.  I don't think Earl is effecting him at all.  Hope that Earl leaves soon...did I mention that my washing machine broke down yesterday?  That's another story!
